Peter B. Collins Presents Activist Sue Udry
The House and Senate have both passed CISA/CISPA, the Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act with claims that it will repel cyber attacks. But it’s actually another way for the government to spy on Americans, requiring companies to share information on attacks with the government and other companies. There’s no indication the law will prevent hacks or protect private information, and this collusion between government and corporations, at the expense of individual rights, meets the definition of fascism. While we know that the Cyber Command is running offensive operations on the internet, we don’t know, for example, if the Sony hack was blowback from secret American cyber attacks on others. The bill also carves out a massive, dangerous loophole in the Freedom of Information Act. Udry has organized opposition including libertarians, tech companies, civil liberties and privacy rights groups, but Big Brother is winning this round.
*Sue Udry is executive director of the Bill of Rights Defense Committee/Defending Dissent Foundation. The two organizations recently merged, and their new website is here
