Inspired by the mythical War on Cops, Louisiana lawmakers are on the verge of passing the so-called “Blue Lives Matter” law, the nation’s first police hate crime law, which would provide police officers with even more protective status than they already possess.
And considering how many cops have fabricated attacks on themselves in recent years – not to mention fabricate reports on a daily basis – we can only expect Louisiana cops to fabricate hate crimes against themselves once the law goes into effect.
But, of course, that’s not the way lawmakers are viewing it.
Instead, they are under the impression that they are protecting police officers, whom they believe are under siege from the public, when the facts show it is the other way around.
The bill has already sailed through the house and the senate, so all that is needed is for Governor John Bel Edwards, whose father was a sheriff, to sign it into law.
The law would dole out extra punishment to those who specifically target police officers for their crimes.
However, Louisiana already has a law that allows for “enhanced penalties” for crimes against “peace officer(s).”
But the new law would place police officers and firefighters in the same protective class as victims of crimes based on race, age, gender, religion, color, creed, disability, sexual orientation, national origin and or ancestry.
According to Mother Jones:
State representative Lance Harris, who introduced the Blue Lives bill last month, said it was needed because of rising attacks against law enforcement personnel. As examples, Harris mentioned the August 2015 shooting of a Texas sheriff and the ambush of two New York City police officers in December 2014. But the suspect in the Texas case was found incompetent to stand trial, and the assailant in the NYPD incident showed signs of emotional instability before that attack—and killed himself afterward. This past September, the American Enterprise Institute put out a report noting that shootings of police officers had hit their lowest point in a decade. A December 2015 report by the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund found that 42 officers were killed in the line of duty in 2015—a 14 percent drop from the previous year.
While Mother Jones accurately points out that 42 officers were killed in the line of duty last year, the actual Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund cites that number at 128 because they include cops who die of heart attacks, automobile crashes and even negligent shootings from fellow officers.
Meanwhile, a website called Killed by Police states that 1,207 citizens were killed last year by cops.
Also, the Officer Down Memorial page tends to blame the officers’ heart attacks on the citizens they arrest if they take place during an arrest.
But as we have seen so many times in the past, police will kill citizens by smothering them, then proclaim the citizens died of heart attacks that were unrelated to being smothered.
