Now you can get Clean Water with a Tree Branch and Piece of Plastic Tubing
According to new research pouring river, lake, pond or even puddle water through a freshly-peeled pine tree limb can effectively remove most bacteria that may exist in the water, leaving you with a clean and fresh source of H2O!
This process is so effective that MIT scientists publishing a paper in the PLOS ONE journal, discovered that the low-tech filtration system can produce about four liters of clean drinking water each and every day!
It appears, the same tissue that evolved to transport sap up the length of a tree also has exactly the right-sized pores to allow water through while blocking bacteria. Also, the pores trap air bubbles as well, which could kill a tree if spread in the xylem.

The researchers looked into the filtering potential of other types of wood, other trees have smaller pores than pine and appear not to be able to filter out small particles, like viruses.
