Mexico’s Drug War “Realignment” and the Unseen Hand of the CIA
On this edition of De-Manufacturing Consent: Guillermo is joined by investigative journalist for Narco News, Mr. Bill Conroy. Guillermo and Bill discuss the recent release of Rafael Caro Quintero, who in 1985 was convicted, along with former kingpins Miguel Felix Gallardo and Ernesto Fonseca, of the torture and murder of DEA agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena. We discuss the drug lord’s documented links to the CIA, the Agency’s complicity in Camarena’s murder, and how this relationship with the CIA may have continued with Quintero’s successor, Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman. Also, the capture of Los Zeta’s cartel leader Z40 and Gulf Cartel capo X20 – is it a coincidence that rival cartels are “decapitated” as Sinaloa’s mentors are set free?
