Two news items that caught my eye:Israeli fighter jets intercept EgyptAir passenger plane
CAIRO: Egypt’s Ministry of Aviation announced in a statement Saturday that an Egyptian passenger plane was intercepted by Israeli fighter jets and escorted to Ben-Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv.
Air Saini’s flight number 214 was escorted by the Israeli jets due to “Cypriot air traffic controllers’ delay in sending the data of the Egyptian plane to the Israeli authorities,” according to the statement.
Yedioth Ahronoth has reported that the Egyptian plane was escorted by the Israeli Air forces as the pilots “failed to identify themselves and their flight upon entering Israeli airspace.”
The newspaper added that Egyptian Coptic Christians heading to Jerusalem to perform Pilgrimage were on board of the intercepted plane.
Curious. And just as ISIS ramps up attacks in the Sinai- the US moves troops?Pentagon moves 100 troops from camp in Sinai as Islamists ramp up attacksI guess those American soldiers aren't as brave as we're all led to believe? Or is the US opening the door for Israel to take Egyptian territory?
The Pentagon has shifted more than 100 US soldiers from a desert camp near the Egypt-Israeli border in the Sinai Peninsula after a barrage of attacks by militants linked to Islamic State. The US troops, part of a peacekeeping force that helps maintain the 1979 treaty between Egypt and Israel, were transferred about 480 kilometres south to a more secure area.
Sinai Province, a militant group that last year declared allegiance to Islamic State, has carried out multiple attacks on military outposts in the northern Sinai. Its fighters have killed dozens of Egyptian soldiers, including eight this month when militants fired a rocket at their armoured vehicle.
All news reports are quite clear that it is the Egyptian soldiers being targeted and killed. And yet the Americans move 480 kilometres away....
The recent attacks were among the topics that General Joseph Dunford, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, discussed on Saturday in a closed-door meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi in Heliopolis, a Cairo suburb.Any major change in the peacekeeping force must be approved by all signatories to the accord, which followed the wars between Egypt and Israel in 1967 and 1973.
It's been a busy 24 hours- So much to keep an eye on. Too much for one person, that's for sure!
