Charlottesville ‘Unite The Right’ Organizer Called For Violence At NYC Student Debate

On July 8th, a socialist youth organization called Students & Youth for a New America held a debate called “The Revolutionary Left vs. The Revolutionary Right.”
Representing the right-wing was Augustus Sol Invictus, a former Libertarian Senate Candidate from Florida, who first gained notoriety for ‘sacrificing a goat and drinking its blood‘ during his failed Senate bid.  Sol Invictus said of the sacrifice:

“I know that’s probably a quibble in the mind of most Americans…I sacrificed an animal to the god of the wilderness.”

According to his social media accounts, Sol Invictus was one of the primary organizers of the “Unite The Right” rally, which sparked large counter-protests in Charlottesville, resulting in mass injuries and 3 deaths on August 12th.
The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), a civil rights organization, confirmed Sol Invictus’ role in organizing the rally:

“Others identified on rally posters include Austin Mitchell Gillespie, or “Augustus Sol Invictus,” as the 34-year-old Florida resident is known in Alt-Right circles where he is affiliated with American Guard and the Proud Boys.

The Charlottesville rally should prove fertile ground for Invictus, a failed 2016 Libertarian Senate candidate who once drank goat’s blood during a pagan ritual and now is a right-wing blogger who says a violent, second Civil War is necessary to preserve “Western civilization.”

“He had very few original political ideas, his talk about violence and killing, however, was much more animated,” said Dylan Namm, a 19-year-old student organizer from Pennsylvania.
Invictus was debating journalist Caleb Maupin (full disclosure: Caleb Maupin is a contributor to MintPress News). Audience members stated that while Maupin put forward policy proposals and articulated his ideological position, Invictus often fell back on angry racially loaded statements like “We don’t have to be ashamed to be white.”
“We are not surprised that people have died in Charlottesville. Invictus remarks at our student debate seemed to be fixated on guns, killing, and violence,” said Dylan Namm.
In his closing remarks, Invictus proclaimed:

“You take up your banner, you take a gun and you start shooting. That’s politics.”
