Bernie Sanders was a guest on Meet the Press today. Chuck Todd tried playing "gotcha"-- and repeatedly failed. Bernie explained his positions on gun control, BlackLivesMatter and how economic inequality is impacting American democracy, something Todd tried turning into a comparison between Bernie and Trump. Watch the whole 7-minute interview above, think about why Bernie is the only candidate-- from either party-- with higher favorables than unfavorables in both Iowa and New Hampshire, and then consider the serious idea of helping break the back of corporate rule in America by contributing to Bernie's campaign here. For those of us-- the vast majority of us-- who didn't live through FDR, don't we deserve one great president in our lifetime?Bernie isn't an impossible dream. In fact, in New Hampshire he's out-polling Hillary by 6 points among Democratic men, according to the new NBC/Marist poll. Hillary has one thing going for her-- women who believe it's their turn. She has a 25 point lead in New Hampshire among Democratic women. His campaign isn't just about pushing her in a more populist direction. It's about winning the presidency and fundamentally changing the direction of American politics. Last night his speech at the Louisiana Democratic Party dinner demonstrated what he's fighting for.
"I feel that the great moral, economic political issue of our day is the grotesque level of income and wealth inequality in America. It is not acceptable to me and as president it will not continue to have the top one tenth of one percent owning as much wealth as the bottom 90 percent... The great middle class of this country, once the envy of the entire world, has been disappearing over the last 40 years despite an explosion in technology and worker productivity. Millions and millions of workers are working longer hours for lower wages. They are working two jobs. They are working three jobs. They cannot afford to send their kids to college. That is not an economy which is sustainable. That is not an economy which is moral. That is not the economy that the American people deserve. We need an economy that works for all of us... We need to tell the wealthiest people in this country and the largest corporations that they are going to have to start paying their fair share of taxes... I have not made many promises in my short campaign so far, but there is one that I have made and I repeat to you. No nominee of mine for the Supreme Court will get that job unless he or she loudly and proudly proclaims that they will vote to overturn Citizens United."
