DENVILLE, N.J. (AP) — A member of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s transition team has died in a murder-suicide committed by her husband.
Morris County Prosecutor Fredric Knapp said Friday that Joan Bramhall was shot to death by her husband, John, who died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. A family member reported finding one of the bodies Thursday.
Joan Bramhall was a former Morris County clerk who was well-known in Republican political circles. She was 74 and retired in December.
In a statement, Christie hailed Bramhall as an “outstanding public servant but an even better person.”
Christie says, “She was an extraordinarily selfless and generous person to friends and family alike. She honored me and Mary Pat with her friendship for the last 20 years.”
Cops are Not Seeking Anyone Else in Relation to the Deaths
Police have said that there is no further threat to the community after the deaths, bolstering the assumption that this was a murder-suicide….

The couple’s daughter, Lorraine “Lori” Bramhall, 53, of Brooklyn, N.Y. acknowledged in a telephone interview Friday that she has battled substance abuse problems for years and that her parents at various times raised all six of her children in Denville because she was incapable.
“My father said I wasn’t allowed to talk to my mother. I loved my mother and she loved me,” Lori Bramhall said. She said her father a few months earlier told her he believed her mother had dementia. Lori Bramhall said she argued with her father over his perceptions, saying that her mother could be “forgetful” but she didn’t notice any personality changes.
