Meet Danielle Adams, A Progressive Champion Running In North Carolina
Howard Coble first won his North Carolina congressional seat in 1984, narrowly beating a freshman Democrat by riding Ronald Reagan's formidable coattails. The rematch in '86 was even tighter but Coble won, 72,329 to 72,250... 79 votes! Coble, a pretty mainstream conservative has never had a close call again. The longest-serving congressmember in North Carolina history, no opponent has ever reached 40% against him.

The NYT’s Evolving Drive to War on Syria
By Michael McGehee · NYTX · August 27, 2013
In George Orwell’s classic dystopian novel 1984, Winston Smith, the protagonist, is a clerk for the Records Department at the Ministry of Truth. Winston’s job is to rewrite Oceania’s history, news article by news article, as official party policy changes. The idiom “down the memory hole” comes from this portion of Orwell’s book and refers to the destruction of Winston’s efforts, after making revisions.

In Rush to Strike Syria, U.S. Tried to Derail U.N. Probe
After initially insisting that Syria give United Nations investigators unimpeded access to the site of an alleged nerve gas attack, the administration of President Barack Obama reversed its position on Sunday and tried unsuccessfully to get the UN to call off its investigation. The administration’s reversal, which came within hours of the deal reached between […]

Decentralization of Governance May Help Some Middle Eastern Countries in Turmoil
Although the world is focused on the military coup in Egypt, the accompanying repression of the supporters of the duly elected democratic government, and the real possibility of massive societal strife, another authoritarian government is busily taking its country down a similar road to civil war. Iraqi President Nouri al-Maliki, a Shi’ite who was originally […]

War With Syria and Its Repercussions
A U.S. invasion of Syria could be the first war based on a YouTube video. Why the Rush to War?
The UN inspection team in Syria has been "delayed" due to a dispute among the rebels, who could not or would not guarantee the team’s safety. While the Assad government has granted them access, the suburb of Damascus where the alleged chemical attacks occurred is in rebel-controlled territory. Western news media aren’t reporting the reason […]

August 28, 2013 (Tony Cartalucci) - The Wall Street Journal has confirmed what many suspected, that the West's so-called "evidence" of the latest alleged "chemical attacks" in Syria, pinned on the Syrian government are fabrications spun up from the West's own dubious intelligence agencies. The Wall Street Journal reveals that the US is citing claims from Israel's Mossad intelligence agency fed to the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), a repeat of the fabrications that led up to the Iraq W

Remember Curveball: Dangerous, Familiar Twaddle Precedes US Military Assault on Syria
Update: Indeed - just as was suspected, according to the Wall Street Journal's piece, "U.S., Allies Prepare to Act as Syria Intelligence Mounts," citing US administration sources, the UN has been urged to end their investigation and withdraw, and both the discredited CIA and their Israeli counterparts claim to have the "intelligence" needed to proceed with military strikes - a verbatim repeat of the fabrications used to rush the world into war with Iraq upon intentionally false pretenses. The CIA and

I suggest you start with John Bergman’s YouTube channel. I will give you a head start by giving you some notes on a few of his lectures which I posted below. Obama Won’t Ask Congress for Approval to Attack Syria Because Approval May Not Be Forthcoming
It’s been mentioned that Obama, whether he thinks so or not, is going to need to get Congressional approval before he bombs Syria. It doesn’t look like that’s going to happen, given that administration officials say strikes could come as early as Thursday of this week and Congress is out of session right now.
But Congress being out of session isn’t the only reason Obama doesn’t want to consult Congress, as he is legally obligated. Really, it’s because it looks like Congress might push back on his demands for war. -

Eric Draitser appears on Press TV on August 25th, 2013 to discuss the drive toward war with Syria. He explains the importance of the US timetable for action, noting that the speed with which hostilities might be initiated tells us much about the veracity of the chemical weapons claims and US intentions. Blue America Has A New Candidate... In Oklahoma!
Reactionary Blue Dogs Jim Matheson, Mike McIntyre and John Barrow are often excused for voting consistently when the Republicans even on the most basic and crucial Democratic principles, because of the right-wing nature of their districts. Nick Rahall isn't as anti-worker as the other three, nor as much of a corporate whore as they are, but he gets the same pass for voting with the GOP and for the same reasons. Matheson has the reddest district in the country held by a Democrat-- a PVI of R+16-- and Obama only managed to win 30% of the vote in his brainwashed Utah district.

Iran Debates Whether to Sue US for ’53 Coup
A resident washes “Yankee Go Home” graffiti off a wall in Tehran on August 21, 1953.
This month’s belated official acknowledgement by the CIA through declassified documents of what everyone already knew – that the U.S. deliberately fomented a coup in Iran in 1953 to overthrow a democratically elected government and install an obedient dictatorship – seems to have led the Iranian government to consider suing America. -
Obama Is On the Verge of Committing a Criminal Act of Aggression in Syria
I have to admit, sometimes I get too bogged down in the moral and practical estimates of U.S. militarism. Just Foreign Policy’s Robert Naiman at the Huffington Post reminds us that, ahem, Obama can’t legally bomb Syria without Congressional approval:

Syrian strikes sooner rather then later: Israeli intel lights the way. Iran?
UPDATED BELOW:I have been thinking about Syria in terms of the the situation with Iran especially the attack that Israel so urgently wants to make against Iran. I kind of doubt it myself, but, it is worth considering. So will Israel strike Iran?
