Saudi Arabia’s Desperate Gamble
By Alastair Crooke | Consortium News | November 10, 2107 It is always tempting. The Syrian war is coming to an end, and the losses to those who bet on the losing side – suddenly in the glare of the end-game – become an acute and public embarrassment. The temptation is to brush the losses aside […]

Steve Bannon’s “Populism” Would Impoverish Working People
Bannon’s plan is to take away the choices you make every day in the marketplace. This is not authentic populism. This is a cover for a power grab that will only end in enhancing the amount of power that government has over your life.

When Government Fails, Superstition May Have the Answer
It’s hard to believe, but the only reliable recipe for creating widespread economic prosperity is over a quarter of a millennium old. Adam Smith, the Father of Economics, dashed it off in 1755: “Little else is requisite to carry a state to the highest degree of opulence from the lowest barbarism, but peace, easy taxes, and a tolerable administration of justice.”

‘America First!’ AWOL from Beijing, War with North Korea Looms

‘Inappropriate Behaviour’ – Michael Fallon, Yemen, And The ‘Mainstream’ That Is Anything But
Media Lens | November 10, 2017 The truth of corporate journalism, and the great irony of its obsession with ‘fake news’, is that it is itself utterly fake. What could be more obviously fake than the idea that Truth can be sold by billionaire-owned media dependent on billionaire-owned advertisers for maximised profit? The ‘mainstream’ worldview […]

No, Rand Paul Didn't Have It Coming
I read Elie Mystal’s article on Rand Paul’s assault, which suggests such violent encounters are the inevitable result of libertarianism in practice. He makes two errors. First, he contends Rand Paul ignores the rules of his HOA based on his libertarian philosophy. Second, he contends basing a legal framework on the libertarian non-aggression principle (NAP) is unworkable.

Missing Links For Peace, Civility, Social Well-Being
We will keep missing out if we insist on relying solely on our intellect, acquired knowledge, reason and intelligence; human potential encompasses much more. I am fascinated with the insights the evolution of science provides, particularly astronomy, cosmology, quantum physics and medicine. Medical research and technology opened the doors to the insides of our brains, considered by ourselves superior and in many[Read More...]

Libya: The Forgotten Reason North Korea Desperately Wants Nuclear Weapons

Midnight Meme Of The Day!
-by NoahWe've had other presidents with mental health issues. Some, like Nixon, were more than a little paranoid. Some say Reagan suffered from dementia, but, really, was it he who suffered? LBJ seems to have been barely able to keep his ego in check, and Bill Clinton's OCD need to be loved extended way too far. But Señor Trumpanzee? Well, Americans have always looked at the headcases that have run other countries from time to time and wondered what would happen if a completely, utterly insane person, a person completely untethered to reality, made it to the oval office.
