A member of the ruling faction in the European Parliament has come up with an initiative to impose sanctions against Russia that he said was supporting Ukraine’s regime. Russia has been in a waiting stance ever since the escalation on Tuesday, when Ukraine’s capital Kiev descended into more chaos.

The United States met secretly this week with spy chiefs from Britain, France, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates. The subject was the Syrian civil war and how to better support the rebels, which are by and large al-Qaeda-linked jihadists.

According to American media reports, prison officials said the death of Steven Dale Green, found hanging in his Arizona cell last week, was currently being investigated as an act of suicide.

Yesterday, as the Oklahoma suburbs continue to be plagued with a series of earthquakes, we wondered aloud whether even Republicans would string up the Koch brothers if the reddest state of all were to disappear into a vast, fracted sink hole. I asked if Republicans would because I already know that normal people would. In 2012, only 33% of voters chose to reelect President Obama in that state.

Earlier last December we looked at a tragic mess unfolding in slow motion in Ukraine. Back then there were already people demanding revolution, not reform. Simple look: the conservatives, backed by Russia, don't want anything to do with the EU. The more forward-looking Ukrainians want to break free of the Russian orbit and join the EU.
