US, NATO war moves trigger another Cold War: Iosbaker

An American political commentator says “war moves” by the US and NATO are bringing about a “new Cold War.”
According to media reports, US Strategic Command is conducting a massive nuclear arms drill called “Exercise Global Lightning 14” from May 12-16 “to deter and detect strategic attacks against the US and its allies.”
This comes as Russia conducted on Thursday its own large-scale nuclear response drill over its territory.
Joe Iosbaker, a United National Antiwar Committee leader, who spoke to Press TV in a phone interview on Tuesday, believes that “neither of these is a coincidence.”
“It is the US government that wants war,” Iosbaker said.
“In truth, the war moves by the US and NATO in Eastern Europe, and the Black Sea, and the Baltic Sea, are bringing about a new Cold War,” he said.
“Positioning destroyers and missiles, scheduling war games, imposing sanctions – which in this context, have to be seen as an act of war – all of these risk a wider war,” he added.
The US and NATO are the real aggressor in this crisis, according to Iosbaker, because they are “moving a so-called missile shield to Russia’s borders,” in addition to funding and backing “a fascist-led coup government in Ukraine”.
“Russia is ringed by our military bases. Virtually all the nations that were part of the Warsaw Alliance 25 years ago have been brought into NATO, although the US government had promised the Russians that would never happen.”
As part of the drill, the US military is going to fly 10 nuclear armed B-52s and six B-2 bombers in an attempt to demonstrate US military flexibility and responsiveness.
US Strategic Command insists the drill is not a response to Russia’s drill and has been planned for over a year.
The anti-war movement in the US is responding with “protests and other actions over the next two weeks,” according to Iosbaker.
“By more than 2 to 1, the people in the US are against another war and opposed to US military moves or aid to the coup government in Ukraine,” he added.
