Henningsen on Nuclear Negotiations: ‘Iran is taking a page out of Trump’s Art of the Deal’

In response to Europe’s failure to help compensate Iran for its economic losses from US punitive sanctions,  Iran’s president Hassan Rouhani announced it will begin abandoning the previous restrictions on nuclear research and development imposed on it by the international JCPOA Nuclear Agreement of 2015.
One of the areas Iran is threatening to resume work on is in the area of centrifuges used to produce the same fissile material used in the production of weapons-grade nuclear material. Iran maintains that it has no intention of pursuing a nuclear bomb, but that it will act to protect its own interests in the event that the US and Europe abandon their own commitments to the landmark international agreement.
Rouhani made his announcement at the country’s Atomic Energy Organization, confirming that Tehran will, “immediately start research and development on whatever technical needs the country has and will set aside all the commitments stipulated.”
According to Al Jazeera, Rouhani stated that, “Iran’s third step is of an extraordinarily significant nature,” adding that a “decree will be announced today or tomorrow” (Thursday or Friday). He added, “I see that it’s unlikely a conclusion will be reached with Europe today or tomorrow.”
“They know what we want, and we know what they want,” said Rouhani.

Last night, RT News International spoke with 21WIRE editor Patrick Henningsen about Iran’s negotiations tactics and the apparent split between the US and Europe, as well as the dangers of Trump’s tunnel vision policy and whether there are any positive signs going forward. Watch:
