By now, there are thousands of media images and scenes from protests and mob lootings across the US following the in-custody death of 46 year-old George Floyd last Monday. Here is one video scene captured by an Australian news channel on assignment in Minneapolis on Friday which shows the crowd dynamics and interactions between police and protesters – and also just how easily tensions can accelerate once a relatively minor incident begins to escalate.

Just as the US economy was beginning to reemerge after ten weeks of COVID-19 lockdown across the country, the recent spate of protests, now retailers and restaurants across the country have had to close their doors again for fear of rioting mobs.
With most of country still under ‘lockdown’ orders or just coming out their shutdown – the people were primed for an exposition on the streets.

Nationwide Uprising Against Failed State Triggered By Police Killings


The nationwide uprising sparked by the murder of George Floyd and other recent racially-motivated events is a response to the bi-partisan failed state in which we live. It comes in the midst of the COVID19 pandemic and the largest economic collapse in the US in more than a century. These three crises have disproportionately impacted people of color and added to longterm racial inequality and injustice.

The George Floyd Protests – 20 unanswered questions

Racial politics in America are a simmering pot waiting to boil over, they have been for decades. This is only exacerbated as the poverty created by the (totally unnecessary) lockdown starts to hit home. As the weather gets hot, and jobs dry up and prices skyrocket and the small businesses close...people will get tense. They will get angry. This is dry tinder which can burst into flames at any moment. All it took was a spark.
