Strategic Culture Foundation | 30.11.2018 US President Trump has belatedly announced that he won’t meet Russia’s Vladimir Putin at the G20 summit this weekend. Schrodinger’s Immigrant: How Can Immigrants Steal Jobs if They're "Too Lazy to Work"?
Even those who don’t favor completely unrestricted immigration and do worry about immigrants going on welfare should realize that one of the worst things the government can do is put enforcement resources into keeping immigrants from working instead of putting enforcement resources into making sure they’re not on welfare.

Who is Winning the US-Chinese AI Arms Race?
Information technology has already transformed virtually every aspect of modern civilization. The rise of artificial intelligence and the ability of systems to train themselves rather than be programmed, allowing them to perform tasks no human could, is expected to have as much, if not more an impact than the proliferation of computers and the Internet. -

Thank you for your sympathy for my loss of Boy
Dear Readers,
Thank you so much for your many letters of condolences and for sharing your grief at your own loss of deeply loved animal friends. Thank you for the lovely poems and for this quote from Mark Twain: “If man could be crossed with the cat, it would improve man but deteriorate the cat.”
As all of us know, animals are not our pets. They are our friends, and our moral superiors. Their presence improves us.
I am very proud of the character, compassion, and intelligence of my readers. No one has a better audience. Thank you.

The Opposite Of Berniepalooza
I spent the last few days in lovely Burlington, Vermont… at Berniepalooza. It was very inspiring, very forward-looking of course-- with speakers like Stephanie Kelton, Cornel West, Bill de Blasio, Abdul El-Sayed, Ben Jealous, Susan Sarandon, John Cusack, Bill McKibben… talking about the progressive vision for America and the world.ALEC (the American Legislative Exchange Council) had a conference too. It was the exact opposite-- how to abolish Social Security and Medicare kind of thing. Nancy Altman covered it for Common Dreams.

"I, Pencil’s" Faith in Freedom
Sixty years ago this month—December 1958—a now-classic and well-known essay debuted before the world. It was titled "I, Pencil."
In this essay, FEE founder Leonard E. Read identifies “faith in free people” as more than simply important to freedom. He identifies it as indispensable. No faith, no freedom. Can this be literally true or was he exaggerating? -

The Cruel Tear-Gassing of Asylum Seekers

Khashoggi Media Sensation, MBS, and Yemen Silence
Jamal Khashoggi’s death has captured the American news cycle for nearly two months. President Donald Trump buys the Saudi … Continue reading "Khashoggi Media Sensation, MBS, and Yemen Silence"

Syria, Iran, Georgia: Slippery Slope in Discussing Oil Smuggling and Sanctions
The history of sanctions teaches us that they are like a pole – you can find a way around them, and in the process, find a niche market for all kinds of smugglers, gangsters, and political types, as co-operation is needed at all levels. For this reason, sanctions often have the opposite effect to that intended, and make “bedfellows” of the least likely of stakeholders. -
