Excess deaths

Life insurance companies say that excess deaths claimed 158,000 more Americans in the first nine months of 2023 than in the same period in 2019.  With the worst of COVID behind us, annual deaths for all causes should be back to pre-pandemic levels.

The ONS has finally admitted in a Lancet article that Britain is in an ongoing excess deaths crisis, alarmingly finding hundreds of extra young and middle-aged deaths every month. But experts blame "lifestyle".

Americans should have an advantage over other countries in terms of life span due to its economic position. But life expectancy has decreased. In 2019, there were 483,000 excess deaths in the US that were higher than normal, but in 2021, the number rose to 892,000 excess deaths that amount to 1 in 4 deaths.
