Exercise Orzel Alert wraps up in Poland

About 100 Canadian and American paratroopers joined their Polish counterparts this week for training exercises over a military training area in the Błędowska Desert in Poland.
Exercise Orzel Alert, a US-led multinational exercise wrapped up on Friday, 9 May 2014. The exercise began on 5 May when the drop of paratroopers was performed in the Błędowska Desert. Training then continued at Żagań Land Training Centre. The exercise included training in parachuting, airborne operations and infantry skills with a view to enhancing NATO Alliance interoperability and readiness.
For 5 days paratroopers from the Canadian 3rd Battalion, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry and the American 173rd Airborne Brigade trained together with troops from the Polish 6th Airborne Brigade.
Orzel Alert is not the first US-CAN-POL paratroopers’ exercise. They have been training together for many years now and this exercise is just the next step of increasing interoperability between the forces.
The Canadian and American troops are in Poland to train with their NATO allies as part of recently announced exercises to demonstrate NATO commitment.
