According to reports by Middle East Monitor, and corroborated by similar reportage in the Israeli media, Palestinian resistance fighters managed to shoot down an Israeli drone in the southern Gaza Strip.
Today, an Israeli spokesperson confirmed that one of their drones had been lost. “Last night, a small drone crashed in the southern Gaza Strip,” said Avichay Adraee. “The incident is being investigated.”
Israeli media have confirmed the drone was a quad-copter model. The Israeli media are down-playing the incident, inferring that their drone “fell” from sky due to a ‘design flaw.’
“Some of the IDF’s smaller drones crash with relative frequency, owing to their size and simple design,” said Times of Israel.
As yet, no details have been released explaining why the IDF drone was in the area, or what its intended mission was.
This latest incident comes on the heels of a series of aggressive provocations by Israel using drones against its neighbors, most notably against Lebanon.
