Even Harvard has bowed to the Biotech Giants, stating that herbicide use is “ubiquitous” and may or may not increase with the cultivation of genetically modified (GM) crops. However, GM crops accounted for 45.2% of the global glyphosate market in 2012 and have been increasingly cultivated. Without GMOs, there would be a great decrease in the use of carcinogenic glyphosate.
Have you ever thought about the potential health benefits of knitting or crocheting? Maybe sitting down to knit some mittens doesn’t seem like the most earth-shattering way to boost your health, but it’s certainly a relaxing one!
Many studies have found evidence that knitting or crocheting can lower blood pressure, reduce stress, and even improve memory and brain function as we age. Even the immune system can be boosted by knitting, and studies show we feel more relaxed and upbeat. Why is this so?
Wendy’s has more than 6,500 franchises in the US alone. It’s the world’s third largest fast food hamburger chain, servicing millions of customers annually. A group of employees known as the Coalition of Immokalee Workers (CIW) is calling for a boycott of the hamburger titan, kicking off a demonstration to communicate its displeasure with a 12-day Workers’ Voice tour earlier this month.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced the appointment of a new foreign media adviser and spokesman this week, the latest in a series of moves viewed as snubs to the Obama White House. US-born David Keyes replaces Mark Regev, who became familiar to English-language audiences as the voice of the Netanyahu government during Israel's repeated attacks on Gaza.
By Lawrence Wittner | Peace & Health Blog | March 16, 2016 Isn’t it rather odd that America’s largest single public expenditure scheduled for the coming decades has received no attention in the 2015-2016 presidential debates? The expenditure is for a thirty-year program to “modernize” the US nuclear arsenal and production facilities. Although President Obama […]

Fractured. What appears to remain of the Republican Party as we know it – or knew it – is now being rended by internecine wars, feuds, squabbles, infighting and mutineering cabals. How delicious.

By Rick Sterling | Consortium News | March 17, 2016 There has been a pattern of sensational but untrue reports that lead to public acceptance of U.S. and Western military intervention in countries around the world. After experimenting with taking a belligerent stance on the Syrian question, Turkey seems to be shifting to diplomacy once again. This shift does make sense given that belligerence has cost Turkey a lot. On the domestic front, Turkey has had to face a reasonably organized Kurdish resistance. On the external front, its un-necessary belligerence has cost her relations with Russia, ending up in the form of Russian sanctions on Turkey.
The headlines of the Middle Eastern media have recently been marked by such words as “surprise” and “shock” after the announcement that Russia’s President Vladimir Putin declared a partial withdrawal of Russian troops from Syria. This reaction can be compared to the shock that Arabian media sources expressed six months ago, when Russian warplanes launched an assault against ISIS in the Syrian Arab Republic.

Soon, most likely, there will be new brutal sanctions imposed against North Korea. And there will be massive provocative military exercises held, involving the US and South Korean (ROK). In brief, it is all ‘business as usual’: the West continues to torture DPRK; it is provoking it, isolating, demonizing and dehumanizing it, making sure that it wouldn’t function normally, let alone thrive.

James Evan Pilato of Media Monarchy invited me on “Navigating Netflix” to discuss the X-Files reboot and its meaning in the pop milieu that is Hollywood’s obsession with rehashing the 80s and 90s. What the heck is up with the X Files showing so much conspiracy reality, yet cloaking it under the “alien” blanket? Was there anything redeeming in the show, or was it more or less a failure? Is all this just “conspiracy candy,” to quote HoaxBusters? What about the references to GMOs, the NSA and chemtrails?
Yesterday’s surprising announcement by Syrian Kurds that they consider themselves in an autonomous region is either a bold move to solidify their self-determination before the fog of war clears, or perhaps it is John Kerry’s “Plan B” to break up Syria if the US cannot overthrow Assad. Or perhaps it is a reaction to US insistence that the Kurds do not deserve a place at the Geneva table where a political solution to the war in Syria is being discussed. Whatever the case, it adds a hugely significant variable to the already complicated situation.
