Unions Are Contributing To Anti-Worker Republicans And Rich Republicans Are Contributing To Hillary
Every election cycle I've been writing about how certain unions-- usually the building trades-- contribute a great deal to Republican candidates running against Democrats. I won't have to this cycle; ThinkProgress already did a good job at it. Despite the fact that 'Right-to-work' laws "have been proven to not only reduce the number of people who are part of a union, but also the average wages and benefits for workers in those states...

Hillary Clinton’s Turn to McCarthyism
By Robert Parry | Consortium News | August 9, 2016 The irony of Hillary Clinton’s campaign impugning the patriotism of Donald Trump and others who object to a new Cold War with Russia is that President George H.W. Bush employed similar smear tactics against Bill Clinton in 1992 by suggesting that the Arkansas governor was a […]

McDonald’s Makes Positive Food Changes Due to Demand for Healthy Food
McDonald’s has been in the news a lot this month, thanks to big changes the fast-food company is making to several of its menu offerings.
The company began making these changes more than a year ago, when it replaced margarine with real butter in its Egg McMuffins, and added kale and spinach to the iceberg lettuce in its salads. (Those kale salads wound up being higher in calories than McDonald’s famous Big Macs, though.) [1] -

Naked Cynicism—Can I Be Bribed to Vote for a Phony, Hedge-Fund Warmonger?
“They don’t care about you at all . . . at all . . . AT ALL.” — George Carlin
Back in 2000, when the evangelical, chicken hawk, smirking frat boy—another rich kid, spoiled brat—grabbed the presidency, the Democrats blamed (and never forgave) Ralph Nader and the Green Party. If Trump wins, a similar scapegoating will not work, not if we remember the unequivocal realities of the polls. -

Study Reveals ‘Best and Worst’ States to Have a Baby
Most of us are already aware that having a baby can come with a significant price tag. However, that price can vary quite a bit from state to state, with the average cost hovering around $10,000 for the birth of a baby and an extra $5000 for a C-section.

Russia and Turkey Mend Fences. It's Either a Big Deal or It's Much Ado about Nothing?
The media goes between making this a big deal to downplaying the significance. It's either two despots getting together to be despotic or it's much ado about nothing. It appears we'll have to use our own discernment. Looks to me as if some progress was made. The fact they had the meeting indicates progress.

Just How Gross is Double Dipping?
How disgusting is double dipping, really? Researchers at Harvard were inspired by the character of George Costanza in a 1993 episode of Seinfeld in which he is caught “double-dipping” a chip at a wake. Double-dipping, for those unaware, is when one dips a chip, takes a bite, and then dips their chip again. The other characters, horrified by George’s behavior, said that his act was akin to putting his entire mouth on the dip.
But does science support George or the other characters in this debate? -
