Preventing Provocation: Russian Jets Shadow German Military Flights Over Syria

21st Century Wire says…
These shadow flights could prevent a potential provocation from those looking to oust Assad.
Watch a video of this report here:

A German commander has revealed that Russian jets permanently monitor Luftwaffe Tornados performing reconnaissance missions over Syrian airspace.
But, the Russians take no aggressive actions towards the German pilots, such as intercepting them or attempting to force them out of their area of operations.
The commander said“those encounters go on professionally, no incidents have been registered,” and he believes the Russians are carrying out the shadow flights to make it clear that “unlike the international [US-led] anti-IS coalition, they operate at the invitation of the legitimate Syrian government.”
The Germans have not been carrying out bombing runs in Syria, but have recently started these recon flights as a part of the US-led coalition.
With Saudi Arabia and Turkey trying their best to escalate the situation in Syria, Russia is surely looking to ensure that things do not get any hotter than they already are. Particularly because Syrian forces are now advancing on the ISIS HQ in Raqqa.
Do you think the West would be far more aggressive in Syria without the Russian presence?
