Turkey played an important part in success of ISIS

A 27 year old commander of the Islamic State, told the Washington Post in a recent published interview, that their succeses in Syria and Iraq would not have been possible without the help of the Turkish government. The commander, identified as Abu Yusuf, explained that most of their supplies and equipment came from the Turkish border before the crackdown. The commander told that even high ranked officials and wounded soldiers were treated by Turkish hospitals. The commander told that most of their fighters were smuggled in through the borders of Turkey.
Because of the recent crackdown, it is more difficult to have trust in the Turkish borders for supplies. This is too little, and too late. The commander, Abu Yusuf, told that there are many ways to cross the border with Turkey. One of the methods is through smugglers. Turkey helped the Islamic State because the Islamic State are fighting against the government of Bashar al Assad and the Syrian civilians. Due to the recent activities in Iraq, it is possible that Turkey is helping the Islamic State less, or not at all, then before.
