There are many reason I live in California-- the weather is one. Another is that incidents like this don't happen. But it just did, an hour from my house in Huntington Beach. I'm ashamed.CA-48 is changing... slowly.
Perhaps you noticed that Iowa's racist xenophobic congressman, Steve King, is bragging that his Republican colleagues in the House have been congratulating him and slapping him on the back for his latest bigoted outburst.
I'm hearing anecdotal evidence from all over the country that people are tense and disturbed and attributing their change in mood to Trump. I know it sounds unbelievable-- and maybes' just people I know-- but everyone sounds on edge. People are seeing psychiatrists and self-medicating and getting off the wagon and everyone seems nervous and depressed... Have you seen any of that too?
Look, I like a good harira and a sumptuous tagine as much as anyone. But I haven't been to Morocco more than a dozen times because of either. I first visited Morocco early in 1969; it was my first trip to a "non-Western" country. I loved everything about it, but it was the generosity and welcoming nature of the Moroccan people that blew my mind.

(ANALYSIS) — A divisive vote, with jobs and immigrants the most combustible issues. An outcome that surprised the experts. A nation left on edge, with many anxious about intolerance and the violence that can stem from it.
You might not realize it from DWT posts, but I've been slow to shake off the denials that set in about the existential dangers of a Pepe The Frog Regime here in America. Every now and then something hits my consciousness and moves me towards reality. Sunday morning Marco Rubio's ugly countenance was on Meet the Press urging Pepe to deny DACA renewals to students.
I was just watching a giant L.A. school district walk-out on TV, tens of thousands of students protesting Trump's odd and very questionable ascension to the presidency. L.A. students I've spoken with are worried about Trump's intolerance, xenophobia, racism, misogyny and homophobia and how that mindset may manifest itself as part of a policy agenda sure to be rubber-stamped for the next 2 years by a Republican Congress. But the other topic I heard from the majority of students I spoke with in the last week was Climate Change.
