United States President Donald Trump’s recent decision to completely pull the plug on the 2015 Iranian nuclear accord, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), will likely have a major effect on the upcoming summit between North Korea and the United States. Even as the president was making his announcement, newly appointed Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was reportedly on his way to North Korea to prepare for Trump’s meeting with Kim Jong Un.

The US has chosen to target six individuals and three companies for further sanctions as a part of its withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal, it’s first round of new sanctions since Trump’s announcement.

The EU’s Chief Commissioner, Jean-Claude Juncker, has declared that the US is no longer a reliable ally, and cannot be counted on to cooperate with others, and whose international influence must be replaced.
The statements came following Trump’s long awaited withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) nuclear restriction agreement providing Iran with economic sanctions relief from measures related to their nuclear development program.

Trump’s decision to pull out of the JCPOA was widely expected.  His decision to impose across the board sanctions against Iran was not.  It seems that the US’s European allies – Britain, France and Germany – were not informed of this in advance, and are making no secret of their dismay.

Trump yesterday signed off on a US withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) lifting tough economic sanctions on Iran in exchange for a throttled nuclear development commitment. Why would he do this when all the other parties to the agreement were literally begging him not to withdraw and the IAEA had certified nearly a dozen times that Iran was complying with the terms of the agreement?
