As Chicago Removes More Homeless Residents, a Federal Judge Dismisses Lawsuit Challenging Evictions

A federal judge dismissed a lawsuit against the city of Chicago’s evictions of homeless people, even as officials continue to remove homeless people and fail to provide affordable housing.
Andy Thayer, an activist with Uptown Tent City Organizers (UTCO), requested a public assembly permit for a protest encampment at Stewart Mall after the city indicated it had plans to renovate two viaducts under Lake Shore Drive, where homeless Chicagoans lived.

Gun-Grabbing Liberals and Mainstream Media Silent about Violence in Chicago

The mainstream media is quiet because Chicago has the toughest gun control laws in the country, yet they have one of the highest murder rates, indicating that gun control does not work. The media also failed to report on violent gangs of teens who swamped the Miracle Mile upscale shopping area, and 19 people were arrested on charges of mob activity, battery and weapons possession. The mayhem comes less than a month after similar mob actions were reported on the famed retail strip.

Activists Sue to Stop Vote on Funding for Chicago Police Compound

The No Cop Academy Coalition filed a complaint in a circuit court in Cook County to prevent a City Council vote on a funding measure for a $95 million police training academy.
Attorney Brendan Shiller, who is one of the attorneys representing the coalition, asserted the City of Chicago, through elected officials, “engaged in a series of acts designed to tamp down dissent, eliminate debate, and avoid discussion on funding issues related to this particular police facility.”
“In so doing, the City has violated both the Open Meetings Act and its own ordinances,” Shiller added.

Campaign Successfully Stalls Vote on Funding Controversial Chicago Police Compound

A coalition of activists led by young black people succeeded in postponing the vote on a funding measure for a $95 million police training academy, which the city of Chicago plans to build on the west side.
Alderman David Moore and Alderman Carlos Ramirez-Rosa exercised their right to defer and publish the ordinance for the compound. That effectively pushed the vote to Friday, when the Chicago City Council will resume the meeting and complete unfinished business.
