The studies are in: it’s time to escape Monsanto’s GMOs and start giving your body the nutrients it really needs to thrive. One of the largest issues we currently face is finding meals that aren’t loaded with GMOs and toxic additives that actually taste good.
US Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack, also known as Monsanto’s errand boy, sent a letter to media outlets on May 1st of this year stating that the USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) has, for a long time now, offered a Process Verified non-GMO label to food manufacturers. In the least, the claim has kicked up some dust to make understanding the USDA non-GM label claims a little difficult to see through.
Many have questioned whether hospitals are really conducive to healing since they serve pesticide-ridden GMOs to their patients as they recover from some of the same illnesses that GMOs create, but one medical center in Vermont which serves 2 million meals a year is preparing to reduce GMOs served to both patients and hospital visitors alike.
In yet another set of victories for the healthy consumer, fast food giants Taco Bell and Pizza Hut have announced that they will be removing artificial ingredients from their food items – a change undoubtedly sparked by our collective desire for food that is free of questionable ingredients.
Marking the first such announcement by one of the nation’s largest restaurant chains, Chipotle Mexican Grill has stated that it has successfully phased out GMOs from its food. This is a move that will undoubtedly continue to push Chipotle into higher profits as many fast food chains continue to lose profits.
Panera Bread, I want to thank you for becoming a healthier restaurant to stop at when I am driving across the country and I see one of your retail locations. It is wonderful that you plan to remove all additives, artificial colors, flavors, sweeteners, preservatives, and high fructose corn syrup from the food on your menu by 2016, but what about GMOs?
If the mandate of the FDA includes protecting public health by assuring the safety of the food supply, why is the organization allowing a staggering amount of additives to adulterate our food? Many of these additives have dire consequences to the health this agency is supposed to protect.
What does it take to get physically removed from McDonald’s? Apparently, as I found out, all it takes is to ask one of their employees about what’s actually inside their McNuggets. It even resulted in a whopping 7 police officers at the scene to ‘escort’ me off their property. All for asking about the McNuggets (which I was never able to purchase).
With so many food providers/makers being pressured to make healthy product changes, it is becoming clear that 2015 is going to be the year for food reform. In one of the most recent food chain announcements, Dunkin’ Donuts says that it will soon remove a controversial ingredient from its doughnuts known as titanium dioxide.
Bad news: Frito-Lays SunChips have just tested positive for weed killer and GMO ingredients. The chips are marketed as a ‘healthy’ alternative to regular chips as a means to lessen the chance of developing heart disease, but if your dining on Round Up (glyphosate residues) and GM Bt toxins found in most genetically modified corn, then ‘healthy’ as Frito-Lay defines it takes on a new meaning.
