UN Human Rights Council Extends Mandate for Investigation of War Crimes in Yemen

SANA’A, YEMEN — The families of war victims have welcomed a UN Human Rights Council resolution extending the mandate of an international investigation into war crimes in Yemen, describing the vote as a step that shows the Council stands with those who have lost loved ones.
Amar Fares, who lost her entire family in Saudi airstrikes that targeted her home in northern Yemen’s Heidah district last year, told MintPress News:

The extension of the mandate for an international investigation gives us hope for the first time. Maybe I will see part of justice achieved.”

Saudi Arabia Begins Construction of Petrol Pipeline Through War-Torn Yemen

AL-MAHRA, YEMEN — Saudi Arabia has begun construction on a pipeline in the al-Mahra province in Yemen — which will allow the kingdom to transport oil directly to the Arabian Sea, bypassing the Strait of Hormuz and Bab-el-Mandeb Strait — a high-ranking Yemeni official told MintPress News.
The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the new pipeline would allow Saudi Arabia to export oil from refineries in al-Mahra through the Rub’ al Khali Desert, the largest contiguous sand desert in the world, which lies in Yemen’s northeast.

The Saudi strikes on the fishing boats killed multiple fishermen near the island of Uqban, about 36 kilometers off the coast of the city of Hodeida.
