SANA’A, YEMEN —  “Saudi fighter jets were hovering above our head and launching very violent raids, the likes of which we haven’t seen since the war began three years ago,” 52-year-old Ali Abdul Salam Damesh told MintPress News. “The neighboring houses shook so much we thought an earthquake hit the area.”
Damesh was one of the escapees who was able to flee from Saudi coalition airstrikes targeting the Jedder area in Yemen’s capital of Sana’a. Three civilians were killed and five injured in the largest such attack on the city in months.

HODEIDA, YEMEN — The fragile Yemeni truce reached in peace talks in Sweden in December is at risk after the Saudi-led coalition launched a military campaign this past weekend to control al Jah al Aseel in Beit al Faqih, south of Yemen’s port city of Hodeida, risking another brutal cycle of violence.
The move comes after five UAE ships landed in Yemen’s southwestern city of Mocha over the weekend loaded with dozens of armored vehicles, heavy weapons, and various weapons carriers, according to a local source speaking to MintPress News on the condition of anonymity.

HODEIDA, YEMEN — Dutch Major General Patrick Cammaert chaired a joint UN committee in Hodeida, Yemen on Wednesday to monitor the truce between the Saudi-led coalition and the Houthis that was put into place on December 18.
A UN monitoring team, led by Cammaert, arrived in the port city on Monday after traveling from the Saudi-controlled city of Aden, and earlier from Yemen’s capital, Sana’a, where they met with Houthi officials on Sunday. The team arrived in Yemen on Saturday to oversee the fragile truce reached during recent UN-brokered peace talks in Sweden.

SANAA, YEMEN —  A high-ranking Houthi official told MintPress that the group will demand Saudi Arabia return the body of murdered journalist Jamal Khashoggi to his family as part of a mass prisoner exchange with the Saudi-led coalition. The official added that the demand will be made if Khashoggi’s sons request that it be part of the exchange.

SANA’A, YEMEN — (Report) Last week’s peace talks in Sweden between the Saudi-led coalition and Yemen’s Houthis was cause for celebration for many the world-over who hoped to finally see an end to Yemen’s bloody war. But many of Yemen’s people hedging their bets and have expressed frustration over the results of the week-long talks in Rimbo, talks that leaders on both sides of the conflict viewed as a victory.

HODEIDA, YEMEN — Hope was quickly dashed for the residents of Yemen’s Hodeida after a week of peace talks in Sweden initially gave rise to a ceasefire between Houthi forces and the Saudi-led coalition.  But instead of peace, the sounds of fierce clashes and coalition fighter jets re-echo throughout the province.

RIMBO, SWEDEN — Following three years of one of the bloodiest battles of the 21st century, the Saudi assault on Yemen’s key port city of Hodeida may be nearing its end. The Saudi-led coalition and Ansar Allah, the political wing of the Houthi resistance movement, have agreed to a ceasefire in Hodeida and in the Taiz Province of northwestern Yemen, the scene of some of the most intense battles in the war, to facilitate the delivery of aid.

SANA’A, YEMEN — Yemeni forces reportedly targeted Apache helicopters as well as a Saudi airbase in Bir Askar in Saudi Arabia’s southwestern region of Najran on Wednesday evening. The attack was carried out with a salvo of high-precision ballistic missiles dubbed the Badr P-1. The short-range ballistic missile uses a solid-propellant, an upgrade from its previous iteration, the Badr-1.

AL-MAHRAH, YEMEN —  Three protesters were killed on November 14 when a Saudi armored vehicle raided a peaceful sit-in and fired live ammunition into crowds of demonstrators in the Tunnel District of Yemen’s eastern al-Mahrah province. The demonstrators were protesting the construction of a new Saudi military base near the Nashton seaport in Yemen’s al-Anfaq district.
