Knesset’s New Nation State Law Codifies Israel as an Apartheid State

JERUSALEM — After several days of rushing and intense debates, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had his wish come true. He urgently wanted to get the Nation State bill passed into law before the Knesset goes into summer recess on July 22, and for several days now the Knesset committee charged with ironing out the bill was delaying the process with long discussions.  Now the law passed 62 to 55 and 2 abstentions.

Israel Moves to Outlaw Criticism of the Military

The Israeli Knesset has approved the first reading of a bill that would ban organizations critical of the country’s military. The contentious bill, which passed by 35-23 votes yesterday, was proposed by Education Minister Naftali Bennett. The chairman of the right-wing Jewish Home party is seeking to criminalize organizations that are critical of Israel’s occupation of Palestine.

Israeli Lawmaker Calls Palestinians Insects & Dogs To Their Face

The International Committee of the Red Cross has condemned an incident where an Israeli lawmaker boarded a bus carrying family members of Palestinian prisoners from the Gaza Strip and proceeded to insult them.
“The ICRC deplores this incident and reminds the [Israeli] authorities of their responsibility to ensure that family visits take place safely and are protected from assaults of any kind,” the body said in a statement emailed to The Electronic Intifada.
Visits for families are coordinated by the Red Cross.
