Head of Duma committee reports pro-Russian sentiments in Crimea
MOSCOW: Crimea is constructively pro-Russian and is ready to repel a possible armed aggression, head of the Russian State Duma Committee for CIS Affairs Leonid Slutsky has said.
“We saw to ourselves once again that Crimea is the part of Ukraine that is now most pro-Russian and constructive as always, the part that is ready to repel any armed aggression, if one, God forbid, follows in case Kyiv deems that what it regards as separatist feelings prevail in Crimea. Unfortunately, such things are possible,” Slutsky said in an interview with Russia 24 channel on Wednesday.
In his opinion, the conflicts between the protesters in Simferopol who demand that the local leadership should not recognize the new government in Kyiv and Crimean Tatars who support the change of power disorganize the situation in the region.
