NATO PATRIOT MISSION, PARTNERS AGREE TO INCREASE COOPERATION AND KNOWLEDGE
The Dutch, American, and German Patriot detachments, which are deployed to protect Southern Turkey against the rocket threat from Syria, will continue to work closely in the coming year. The NATO partners will focus on sharing knowledge and enhancing their skills with regards to the Patriot system.
The American Commander of the Patriot Detachment, Lieutenant Colonel Lisa Bartel, visited the Dutch units in Adana to discuss further cooperation. One of the improvements agreed upon was that the three national units, Germany, The Netherlands, and the United States, would share knowledge about operational performance and inter-operability. The units also agreed to meet on a regular basis, rotating the location between the units, to discuss the topics in a more in depth fashion.
Germany, the Netherlands and the United States deployed two Patriot batteries each top support the NATO mission in Turkey. The units are located in the Turkish cities of Kahramanmaras, Adana, and Gaziantep. Recently all three NATO Nations agreed to extend the mission for an additional year, at the request of the government of Turkey.
