MoD: NATO Military Committee to Visit Georgia in February
Tbilisi: NATO Military Committee will visit Georgia on February 11-12, the Georgian Ministry of Defense said on Tuesday.
NATO Military Committee is the primary source of military advice to the Alliance’s civilian decision-making bodies and is made up of senior military officers from NATO member countries.
Its visit to Georgia was originally planned for November, 2012 but at the time it was postponed after then chief of staff of the Georgian armed forces, Giorgi Kalandadze, was arrested.
Chief of general staff of the Georgian armed forces, Major General Vakhtang Kapanadze, met in Brussels with General Knud Bartels, Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, on January 21.
Kapanadze said after the meeting that the visit by the NATO Military Committee would be a good opportunity for discussing “military-political and NATO-Georgia cooperation in the context of regional security.”
“At the same time, NATO top military brass will be able to witness progress made by Georgia,” he said.
