OPERATION OCEAN SHIELD EXERCISES WITH THE USS TRUMAN CARRIER STRIKE GROUP
ARABIAN SEA: NATO counter-piracy Operation OCEAN SHIELD flagship, ESPS ALVARO DE BAZAN, operated with ships from the USS HARRY S. TRUMAN Carrier Strike Group last week shortly after leaving their latest port of call, Bahrain.
The Spanish frigate and the US Carrier Strike Group shared information and exercised surface warfare and anti-air warfare skills, followed by a visit to the U.S. aircraft carrier by Commander, Task Force 508 (CTF-508) Rear Admiral Eugenio Diaz del Rio and his staff.
Rear Admiral Diaz del Rio and the CTF-508 staff were welcomed aboard by Commander Carrier Strike Group 10, Rear Admiral Kevin Sweeny and the Commanding Officer of USS HARRY S. TRUMAN, Captain Robert Ralf, for a frank discussion about maritime security challenges in the region, as well as a tour of the ship and observation of flight deck operations.
“Every commander at sea should support each other, because our desired end state is the same: a safer maritime environment,” said Rear Admiral Diaz del Rio, reflecting on the visit.
