In the past, Marxism had primarily economic appeal to those choosing it. A mixture of various tyrannical states, some capitalist, some allegedly power hungry in the same way, could be taken as legitimate points of grievance, where a person could point at the wealth of others and agree with the proposal that Marxism might offer a truly utopian path to some sense of “equality.”

According to a study released on Thursday by the state-run pollster VTSIOM, 83.5 percent of Russians approve of Vladimir Putin’s work as president as of the end of July.
This is slightly down on 84.1 percent reported in the middle of the month, but still far ahead of other major Russian politicians.
Here is the distribution of the respondents’ reported votes among the parties:

said the villagers in the Siberian republic of Buryatia via a TV link, organized during the president’s visit to the eastern regions of Russia.

“All right, I will think about it, thank you,”

Russia has reacted strongly to Moldova’s decision to expel 5 Russian diplomats, retaliating by expelling 3 Moldovan diplomats in reply.
The underlying story behind these tit-for-tat expulsions is the deepening political crisis in Moldova, which is bitterly divided between pro-Russian and pro-EU factions.
