Around 90% of people aren’t getting enough of an important nutrient that could prevent Alzheimer’s and other degenerative neurological diseases. It is an easy vitamin to get if you are eating the right foods, and of course you can supplement, but many people don’t realize how simple and effective it can be for treating brain disease.
Without this vitamin, the brain is deprived of one of its primary sources of neuronal health. People without enough of it also end up having lower levels of DHA-PC, an important part of every cell that helps to make up the cell membrane.
As explained by Nature:
“Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that is characterized by senile plaques, neurofibrillary tangles, synaptic disruption, and neuronal loss. Several studies have demonstrated decreases of docosahexaenoic acid-containing phosphatidylcholines (DHA-PCs) in the AD brain.”

So, what’s this all-important vitamin that you should be taking very day to make sure you don’t end up among the millions in the United States and around the world suffering from neurodegenerative disease?
It is found in olive oil, and in almonds, sunflower seeds and avocados. This all important nutrient is Vitamin E. Researchers from Oregon State University say that people without enough DHA-PC, are marked for Alzheimer’s disease.
Additionally, people who are consistently deficient in vitamin E show low levels of a polyunsaturated fat (PUFA) called DHA. Levels can often be 30 percent lower in many individuals than what they need to maintain good brain health.
Another trial published in JAMA found that Alzheimer’s patients who took large doses of vitamin E supplements saw a slow-down in the progression of their disease. They were able to function independently for longer than those who didn’t take the supplement. Though the trial wasn’t without shortcomings and does raise many questions, it could lay the groundwork for a natural treatment option for the crushing condition.
Finally, vitamin E helps to ensure that compounds called lyso PLs, essential for carrying DHA to the brain, are made in plentiful supply.
Just remember to use a natural vitamin E supplement and not a synthetic version – a version that has been shown to be dangerous.
