SYRIA: Dr Bouthaina Shaaban on the Weaponization of Corporate Media

Dr Bouthaina Shaaban, Political and Media Advisor to Syrian President, Bashar Al Assad.
It was a truly historical moment, when the president-elect of the United States, in his first official news conference, refused to take a question from CNN, telling its correspondent that his channel propagates fake news. It indicates the beginning of the end for the Zionist corporate media, which has worked since the days of the Vietnam War as an advocate for wars, oppression, and colonialism.
It also indicates the advent of a new era in news media, in which both the news maker and receiver transcend the big media corporations, and replace them with more accurate and honest media outlets that are more in touch with reality and with the real interests of the people.
The corporate media and its representatives have played a key role in the unjust wars waged against Yugoslavia, Somalia, and Afghanistan. They have been partners to the crimes of destroying Iraq and Libya, and in waging wars on Syria and Yemen, and in covering the crimes of reactionary regimes.
The Gulf-funded media has been a key ally to all the wars of genocide and destruction waged against millions of people by spreading fake stories through false eyewitnesses and other fabrications such as the White Helmets.

Historical changes do not occur overnight, they take time to foment and mature, and then become an established reality. Today, we are witnessing an important historical shift in one of the world’s leading power, which commands a preeminent position in terms of politics, economics, media, and ideas.
What we can say is that 2017 will usher in a new era in the use of communication technology and contacts between countries and peoples. The fall of corporate mass media indicated by Trump’s election is as important as the fall of the Berlin Wall.
The challenge today, however, is to exploit this historic opening to rid the world of media outlets that support terrorism such as CNN, BBC, al-Jazeera, al-Arabyia, al-Hurra, France 24, and others. The wall of lies has come down, and so did the wall of silence. So, who will speak up?
Who will present the facts and employ new techniques to create a media that tells the truth and defends freedoms, as opposed to a media that manufactures “colored revolutions.”
Free thinkers in Europe and the United States were trying to get their voices through the main media outlets, but the doors were always shut in their face. Some, such as Dr. Ron Paul, Vanessa Beeley, and many others persisted in trying to create alternative media outlets, but they were not allowed to appear on the mainstream media. Today, they do not want to go on such media, because it has lost its credibility, and it is only a matter of time before politicians and the public refrain from following this media.
When the “Arab Spring” war began against the Arab Nation, it was advocated, at first, by the Zionist war criminal, dubbed a philosopher, Bernard Henry Levy. Today, this philosopher was hit by shoes when giving a lecture in Belgium, signifying the coup against Zionist plans targeting our peoples and their future.
Blame must be pointed at those cowards who did not stand up for justice during these difficult times, and those who decided to go with the flow and were paid for their silence.
People are not only responsible for what they say, but also for what they refrain from saying.
As for us Arabs, what is important to us in this new era is to agree that al-Jazeera and al-Arabyia and their sister channels are enemies of the Arab people and their interests.
Today, after Trump’s statements about Obama and Clinton’s role in creating ISIS, and after John Kerry’s statement about the US hoping for ISIS to deal a severe blow to the Syrian Government, and after the Zionist entity gave support to the terrorists in Syria, little doubt remains that a plan was contrived to destroy Syria, exactly as they destroyed, Iraq, Libya, Yugoslavia, Ukraine, Lebanon, Somalia, Sudan, and Afghanistan.
It is of utmost importance to recognize that Gulf media stood shoulder to shoulder with the terrorists created by Zionist intelligence services to target Syria and other Arab countries, and eradicate Arab identity and civilization. In this new era, there’s no middle ground, either one stands with Arab rights and with the truth, or one stands with the agents of foreign nations who target our nation.
Mercenaries and traitors are no longer allowed to hide under the name “opposition.” Every political opposition that operates inside the country and protects its dignity, identity, and borders is a legitimate opposition that should be proud of itself.
But those who call themselves “opposition” and put themselves in the service of the Zionists, the Turks, the Saudis, and the Qataris, those should be exposed.
Here, we must salute al-Mayadeen channel, whose performance adheres to the Arab interests, and they have exposed those channels that work against the Arabs. All Arabs, intellectuals, donors, and journalists must take the chance and stand on the right side of history, and they must begin a new era for free Arab media that rises alongside a wider Arab awakening, which would give the Arab world an active role on the international scene.
Today, media is one of the mightiest weapons, and we must know how to use it to serve our Arab interest.
