CDC Issues First Zika-Related Travel Advisory in the U.S.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) is advising pregnant women, women considering becoming pregnant, and their partners not to visit a small community just north of Miami, Florida, where the Zika virus is beginning to spread via mosquito bites.
The announcement marks the 1st time the CDC has warned people not to travel to an American neighborhood over concern of catching an infectious disease. [1]

Flea from Lake Tahoe Area Tests Positive for Plague

If you plan on visiting Lake Tahoe (a large freshwater lake in the Sierra Nevada of the U.S.) anytime in the near future, you might want to make sure you’re thoroughly covered up and wearing some sort of natural insect repellent. A flea from a yellow chipmunk in the area tested positive for plague, the U.S. Forest Service announced June 6.

FDA Issues Warning for 2 Diabetes Drugs Linked to Increased Heart Failure Risk

Following the results of 2 clinical trials, the Food and Drug Administration has issued warnings for diabetes medications containing saxagliptin and alogliptin. These medications have been shown to increase the risk of heart failure, especially for those who already suffer from heart or kidney disease.

Five manufacturers of powdered caffeine have been informed by the FDA that they must stop producing some of their products, provide measuring devices for their products, or package their products in smaller amounts after the agency found that some packages of the substance contained as much as 50,000 servings of caffeine.
