Through a unanimous vote by its City Council, the city of Berkeley, California has decided to hold Monsanto legally liable for polluting the land and water with PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls). [1]
The council’s 6-0 vote means that Berkeley is joining Oakland, San Jose, San Diego and Spokane, Washington, in filing suits against Monsanto, the agricultural biotech company based in St. Louis, Missouri.
Center for Food Safety as well as additional plaintiffs plan to sue the US Food and Drug Administration over its recent approval of AquaBounty’s AquaAdvantage® salmon for human consumption. As far as consumption goes, this is the first genetically modified animal to receive the agency’s green light.

DuPont has been dumping the chemical, C8 (Perfluorooctanoic Acid), into the water supply near its facility in West Virginia for decades, igniting too many lawsuits to count. Carla Bartlett of Ohio is the first in over 3,500 lawsuits against the company to actually win. DuPont has known of the chemical’s toxicity since the 1950’s, but continued to manufacturer it.

Kashi will pay $4 million in a false advertising lawsuit put forth in Florida. The lawsuit claimed that Kellogg’s, the parent company for Kashi, advertised an “all natural” (GM-free) product that was, in reality, full of genetically modified ingredients.
The family of a boy who suffered severe brain damage after being exposed to fumigation chemicals in his home has filed a lawsuit against Terminix and a subcontractor named Sunland alleging slapdash practices.
Last August, Cody Murray and his father, Jim, went to investigate a pump house on Cody’s Perrin, North Texas, property when they saw water spraying from it. Built-up methane gas caused the water well to explode, sending flames 30 feet in both directions, catching Murray’s t-shirt to catch on fire and causing serious burns to his father, wife, and four-year-old daughter.
