Republicans for Biden

David Brooks is a conservative Republican-- but not a Trump-Republican. He's more a Bush/Clinton/Biden Republican. He's all for the old-fashioned anti-family Austerity and elitism they all love so much-- without the messy proto-fascist populism and overt lying. In his column Friday, he laid out the "five gigantic changes happening in America right now" and described them as "reflecting a huge crisis and hitting all at once, creat[ing] a moral, spiritual and emotional disaster. Ready?

Only an extremist conspiracy-theorist would accuse Fox News of released polls based against Trump. The new Fox poll is likely to elicit that kind of response on the fringes of society. Among registered voters, Trump approval rating is just 44% (55% disapproval) and just 38% say they would vote to reelect him.

There's never been another president-- at least not in our lifetimes-- as antithetical to Americanism as Trump. And I've never seen as negative a reaction to him than to anyone else-- not Reagan, not Nixon... Maybe John Tyler, a vice president who became president when William Harrison died a month after being sworn in (1841). Tyler was the most racist president until Trump and one of the country's staunchest defenders of slavery. Like Trump, he was also a traitor to the country, backing secession and becoming a member of the Confederate Congress.

True-- except he was never liberal on civil rights or civil libertiesEvery Republican presidential candidate has had a Democrats For [GOP asshole] and every Democratic candidate has had a Democrats For [Dem asshole]. I'm old and I don't remember an election when that wasn't the case, although I imagine Republicans for Biden is going to be a lot larger and more vibrant than a Republicans for Bernie committee might have been.
