The Philosophy of “Venceremos!”: Case in Point, Canadian Freedom Caravan

“Venceremos” is a concept. It’s a philosophy. It’s a lifestyle. It’s a conviction – a conviction in solidarity with masses of other people. Venceremos is more than “we shall overcome”. Venceremos is enduring. Venceremos is a movement. Venceremos is persevering against all odds – and Venceremos, finally is dynamics. It’s a concept that adapts to […]

Why the Media Silence about Trudeau’s Worst Foreign Policy Failure

Imagine if Nicolás Maduro’s vice president quit and called for his government to be disbanded. Or if Venezuela’s opposition won a landslide in regional elections or if 90% of member states voted against the government’s UN credentials. The Canadian media would have splashed this news on front pages, but the shoe was on “our guy’s” […]

“Left problem” is not cozying up to bad guys but supporting imperialism

Left media should explore a wide range of critical ideas. But it should try to avoid ‘punching down’ too often. Recently new left outlet The Breach published a long interview with Columbia University PhD student Barnaby Raine “on the resurgence of ‘tankie’ and ‘campist’ politics” titled “Is the enemy of my enemy my friend?” It […]

Trudeau’s Parliamentary ‘Victory’ May Cost Him the Next Elections

Canada’s unpopular general election of September 20 is increasingly recognized as a mistake by the country’s leading political analysts. Apparently, Ottawa wants a Haitian regime extending its term and criminalizing protest to maintain its support for Juan […]

“Nazi Satan Death Cults” and other Mass Distractions

Recently, Dissident Voice contributor, the never-compromising class- and labor-blogger, Michael K. Smith, took on a dragon of the  progressive left whose slaying really seems long overdue. Writing in his typically potent style, Smith hammered out the following: How many times do we need to request a meaningless ‘denunciation’ of white supremacy? We, on what passes for […]

Canada’s Anti-War Movement needs to Challenge Government

Should antiwar forces challenge power or praise government officials in the hopes of getting some crumbs for their pet issue? Douglas Roche’s recent Hill Times column suggests the latter. In an article extolling Canada’s new ambassador to the UN Roche writes: “When Canada lost its bid for a seat on the UN Security Council the […]

“Palestine is Still the Issue”: UN Vote Exposes, Isolates Canada

The notion that ‘Canada is better’, especially when compared with US foreign policy, has persisted for many years. Recent events at the United Nations have, however, exposed the true nature of Canada’s global position, particularly in the matter of its blind and unconditional support for Israel.
On June 17, Canada lost its second bid for the coveted UN Security Council seat, which, had it won, would have allowed Ottawa the opportunity to become a world leader, pushing its own agenda — and those of its allies — on the global stage.
