Tomlinson (left) and Amico (right)Georgia still has a PVI that shows it being a red state-- R+5-- but it has been behaving more and more like a swing state lately. I've spoken with operatives working for Bernie, Biden, Kamala and Warren who feel like Georgia is in play for their campaigns.

There's no question that even in defeat there is inspiration to be found. Lucy McBath's 50.5% to 49.5%, 3,264 vote win against Karen Handel in Georgia was a happy ending last month-- a tie in Fulton County and a bigger Democratic win in DeKalb than the GOP win in Cobb-- but people who watch politics closely were jumping out of their skin as Carolyn Bourdeaux closed in on Rob Woodall even if her massive win in Gwinnett County fell a tiny bit short of his even more massive win in Forsyth.

Last year, in a special election to replace Tom Price-- who Trump had named to his cabinet (and soon fired him once it became public he was as crooked as almost everyone else in the cabinet)-- Republican Karen Handel beat Democrat Jon Ossoff 134,799 (51.8%) to 125,517 (48.2%) in the R+8 suburban Atlanta district where Trump had only defeated Hillary 48.3-46.8%.

It was actually silly for Trump to tweet yesterday that Democratic Senate candidate Doug Jones is somehow a Pelosi/Schumer puppet. And, an hour later, he repeated the focus group-tested phrase. Puppet? Pelosi puppet? Jones is running for Senate and Schumer's name isn't toxic enough (yet) among the Fox/Hate Talk Radio masses to stand on its own.

GEORGIA — (Analysis) The recent special election to fill the Georgia Sixth Congressional District seat formerly held by Republican Tom Price, who was appointed to Donald Trump’s cabinet as Secretary of Health and Human Services, was the focus of extraordinary attention and expenditure.

Tom Price’s vacating of a Georgia congressional seat set the scene for exactly what is darkly wrong with US politics. In the sprawling kleptomanic entity known as USA Inc., with its distancing between the concept of representation and the money that backs it, a campaign for one congressional seat can cost tens of millions.

Gone-- but the stench was left behindLast week Roll Call reported that the DCCC hit a record-breaking fundraising number-- over $9.3 million in May… and that most of it came from grassroots contributions.
