The Mainstream Media is pushing forth the weaponized narrative that the Iranian government is carrying out a cover-up of mass killings that supposedly occurred during its recent unrest, though this is nothing more than an infowar conspiracy designed to make the majority of the non-violent citizens that participated in the large-scale protests suspicious of the state as well as further discredit the country’s international reputation.

The Duran’s Alex Christoforou and Editor-in-Chief Alexander Mercouris discuss the protests gripped Iran following a government-mandated fuel price increase of 50 percent and fuel rationing program introduced on November 15th. The decision to ramp up fuel prices was met with violent and large public protests, something the government in Tehran did not anticipate.

Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said that his country has foiled attempts by its foreign enemies to turn genuine protests into a full-blown insurgency to overthrow the Islamic Republic. “Once again, the nation tells the U.S., Britain, and those who seek to overthrow the Islamic Republic of Iran from abroad that ‘you’ve failed, and you will fail in the future, too.’” he tweeted.

Starting Dec. 28, 2017, Iran has witnessed anti-government protests in several cities and towns. The character and the demands of the demonstrations have varied greatly and seem to have already evolved over the course of a few days. From the beginning, Iranian government officials have stated that people have a right to demonstrate, but that acts of sabotage and violence would be dealt with forcefully.

Many Iranian authorities have claimed that the recent protests in Iran are a result of foreign instigation, pointing fingers at the USA, Israel, Saudi Arabia & the MEK. There have been a series of provocations that have led Iranian authorities to believe a joint initiative is being carried by these different groups.
