Harry was jubilant that the abominable George Bush was no more, and sincerely believed that the world was finally heading towards a new age of real peace and prosperity. I told Harry I thought he was wrong, that there would be no significant change.

This Man Has Been Held and Tortured by the CIA For 14 Years Without Charge
(COMMONDREAMS) After 14 years of being held without charge, Guantánamo prisoner Abu Zubaydah, who was subject to brutal torture and is known as the “guinea pig” for the Central Intelligence Agency’s (CIA) “enhanced interrogation program,” made his first appearance on Tuesday before the Periodic Review Board and requested to be set free.

US Frees 15 Guantanamo Bay Prisoners in Transfer to UAE
(MEE) Fifteen Guantanamo Bay prisoners have been transferred to the United Arab Emirates, the largest such release in years, the US defence department announced on Monday.
“The United States is grateful to the government of the United Arab Emirates for its humanitarian gesture and willingness to support ongoing US efforts to close the Guantanamo Bay detention facility,” the department said in a statement.
