The DCCC may be stupid-- or even very stupid (as well as utterly incompetent)-- but their e-mail strategy is very well-planned out. Their overarching goal is not primarily to rake in cash-- although, obviously, they love that-- but to destroy the capacity for grassroots Democrats to have an independent means of raising money for progressive and independent-minded candidates.

And sometimes it looks like the two of them are more engaged in disparaging progressive candidates than in getting actual Democrats elected.
New York Democrats are counting on Hillary to turn out the voters in 2016. NY-21-- the North Country-- has an even PVI, although Obama beat McCain 52-47% and then beat Romney 52-46%. When Obama appointed John McHugh, the incumbent Republican, Secretary of the Army in 2009, the Republicans nominated a well-known moderate Assemblywoman, Dede Scozzafava; the Democrats nominated a barely known Republican-lite New Dem, Bill Owens; and the Conservative Party nominated a teabagger, Doug Hoffman.
Alan Grayson, currently on a fact-finding mission to Israel, didn't seem all that fazed by the DSCC decision to interfere in the Florida Democratic primary by endorsing lifelong Republican Patrick Murphy for the open U.S. Senate seat. "Florida Democratic voters," he told us soon after DSCC chair Jon Tester's sad sack announcement, "choose our party nominee, not out-of-touch party bosses sipping cognac in a smoke-filled room in Washington, DC." Yesterday, writing for Roll Call, Nathan Gonzales asserted that Jon Tester, the new chairman of the DSCC, is pursing the very same toxic strategy this year that would have kept him out of the Senate in 2006.
