As you probably know, Ro Khanna (D-CA) was one of the scores of Democrats in Congress who won a seat in an incumbent-safe blue district by primarying an incumbent. More recently we saw Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) do the same thing.

Almost every time I watch a Bernie Sanders speech or video, like the one above, I think, oh, that could be part of his 2020 announcement. Well... we won't have to wait much longer. I don't think anyone will be surprised to know that Bernie is getting close to announcing. And Saturday, Politico reported that his announcement video has been recorded.
Early in December we looked at 50 vulnerable Republican-held House seats that could be targeted in 2020. The 50 seats were picked by only one criteria-- the GOP had held on by less than 55% of the vote. That's a sloppy criteria, but somewhere to start.
Republicans aren't the only ones who gerrymander states to create safe partisan majorities for themselves. The Democratic Party-controlled Illinois legislature did the same thing. And one of the congressional seats they carved out in a pretty red area is the 17th district abutting eastern Iowa and southern Wisconsin. The legislators carefully-- and awkwardly-- included Rockford and Peoria to give a Democrat the margin of victory they need.
