Houthi forces bring the fight to the Saudis

In the wake of the Saudi seige on the Yemeni port city of Hodeidah, Houthi forces have been on the advance. On Sunday, Houthi forces ramped up their operations in southern Saudi Arabia itself. Meanwhile, they dealt serious damage to Saudi positions near the Alib Cross, as well as an assault on the strategic Al-Dukhan Mountain, where they won a major conflict earlier in the week.

Georgia legalizes recreational Marijuana

Yesterday, the Georgian Constitutional Court revoked administrative punishment for consumption of marijuana, taking note of the high degree of disproportionality between the consumption of the drug and its legal penalty. The decision to abolish administrative punishment for the use of marijuana essentially means that doing so is now legal in Georgia.

Germany’s Defense Minister perceives no definitive strategy towards Russia from Trump

The German Defense Minister, Ursula von der Leyen, says that she can’t discern exactly what Trump’s position is relative to Russia. At one point, he’s talking about being ‘tough’ on Russia, and then the next he’s meeting with the Russian President in Helsinki to improve bilateral ties, and even going so far as to assert that he holds both sides responsible for the deterioration in relations.

Argentina’s economy contracts under IMF imposed austerity

Compared to the performance of the Argentinian economy this time last year, economic activity is down by 5.8% as the government applies the IMF’s austerity measures, aimed at cutting government expenditures in order to make budgetary room to repay the international bloodsuckers. The Argentinian economy is looking more and more grim.

Trump’s trade war weakens US position as global wheat supplier

In the face of US President Donald Trump’s tariffs contest with Mexico, the Mexicans are on walkabout to find alternative suppliers of goods that Mexico imports from the USA. One of those goods happens to be wheat, and as Mexico partially replaces America as one of its leading suppliers, the US will find itself sitting on a surplus supply and will possess that much less market domination. America has been Mexico’s leading wheat supplier since NAFTA in 1994.

G20 Agriculture Summit united in opposition to unilateral protectionism

The G20 represents about 80% of the world’s agricultural trade. At the recent summit in Buenos Aires, Argentina, affirmed their commitment to free and open trade, a rules based system, and a multilateral order, and confirmed the joint opposition to unnecessary tariffs, trade wars, and unilateral protectionism. It even praised the WTO, which Trump has a major issue with. Essentially, it was a meeting of countries to agree that they don’t agree with Trump’s manner of doing business.

Spanish Prime Minister’s minority coalition loses budget battle

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez holds the reigns of power with the help a minority coalition with a very thin grasp. His tenure is brand new and now he’s in a position to test the strength of his ruling coalition in a battle of the wills on one of the most fractious of governmental issues: budget matters. A vote came up on Friday with a new plan to balance the budget in which Sanchez’s allies withheld their support, which could show that perhaps this coalition isn’t really united where it counts.
