Humans Are Being Exposed to 44 TIMES More Chemicals in Plastics that Are Linked to Cancer and Infertility than First Thought

A new study from the University of Washington found that humans are exposed to 44 TIMES higher levels of BPA than is considered safe; BPA is a chemical toxin found in plastics that can cause cancer, infertility, hormone disruption and gender bender interference with male and female chromosomes.

Porkins Policy Radio 195 JP Sottile on Empire and Climate change & Jon Gold on Bill Barr and 9/11 justice

This week JP Sottile joined me for the first hour to discuss the climate catastrophe. We started out by discussing how many people, including myself, have long ignored this issue. We talked about how daunting and overwhelming the crisis is, and how this has led many to feel as though they can’t do anything to […]

Study: BPA-Free Plastics are Not as Safe as They Seem

Bisphenol-A (BPA), a chemical found in plastics that mimics the female hormone estrogen in the body, has been banned in baby bottles, sippy cups, and the lining of cans of formula since 2012 due to public outcry and toxicity research. Since then, ‘safer’ BPA alternatives have been used in products, but a new study adds onto growing evidence showing that BPA-free alternatives may not be as safe as consumers think.
In the study, BPA alternatives not only decreased sperm counts in mice, but the decrease led to less-viable eggs.

Cheap, Tasty, and Harmful to Your Health: Ramen Noodles

Between instant noodles, Lucky Charms, and cappuccino, I ate like I had a death wish in college. And though indulging in the occasional cup of noodles won’t kill you, but living on them could shorten your life.

Another Pitfall of the Plastic Chemical BPA: Asthma

If it’s legal, it must be safe, right? Actually, not always. One of the many chemicals deemed legal to use in manufacturing, bisphenol-a (BPA), is contributing to changes in these social attitudes. BPA is an increasingly unpopular chemical, with many companies using the phrase “BPA-free” as selling points for their products. The most well-known effect of BPA exposure may be hormone disruption, but did you know that BPA may also increase the risk of asthma?

House Passes Bill Overhauling Chemical Safety Standards

On Tuesday, the House overwhelmingly approved new chemical safety rules intended to overhaul a law created 40 years ago governing toxic chemicals. The measure will for the first time subject some 64,000 chemicals to regulation.
The bill, which was passed 403 to 12, is expected to be passed by the Senate as soon as this week, and signed into law by President Obama.
