Syrian Troops Break Siege of Aleppo

Syrian troops have reopened a key road linking the central heartland with the embattled northern province of Aleppo, following heavy clashes with foreign-backed militants.
Military forces took control of the road on Sunday night after engaging in a fierce battle with foreign-backed insurgents. The route had been closed since August because of heavy fighting in the area. The development comes a week after army troops captured the strategic town of Khanaser, a vital step to breaking the siege of Aleppo.
Militants of the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham recently cut the city’s internet connection and continue to impose an oppressive regime on citizens living there.
Following the securing of the road to Aleppo, vital supply lines to civilians and military forces have been reopened.
