GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) is in the news again making headlines after having to settle another major lawsuit bringing the latest total to over $9.1 billion since 2003. This time, it is due to GSK’s product Pandemrix, which was the swine flu vaccine forced upon the public during the pandemic of 2009 (which is argued by some to have been fake).
A monumental ethical issue is hovering over the entire medical establishment in the United States that threatens its integrity and trust. The human element is being removed from the equation, replaced by computers to give us our options, and legislation to remove our choice in medical care. Somewhere in the shuffle, the individual’s informed consent was broken down, lost in the paperwork, and made irrelevant.
Due to the recent measles outbreak and panic following, the HHS is accepting “public comment” on its Draft National Adult Immunization Plan (NAIP) until March 9, 2015. Under the NAIP, all adult American citizens will be urged to receive current and retroactive vaccination regimens that may amount to several dozen “shots” during their “catch-up” phase.
Driving to the Santa Fe, New Mexico health food co-op, I was surprised to hear a “public service announcement” on a local radio station encouraging pregnant women to get the whooping cough (pertussis) vaccination during their third trimester of pregnancy in order “to confer that immunity to their newborns”. It all started when the young girl, named Kiera Driscoll, came down with a fever while playing on a Sunday morning. She was given children’s ibuprofen, her farther, Pathrick Driscoll, said made her feel better. But the relief didn’t last long.
