Synthetic Pot Sickens San Diegans
At least a dozen people in San Diego were sickened on Sunday, 2 of them seriously, after ingesting a bad batch of synthetic marijuana.
The victims were mostly young people, including a 13-year-old, according to San Diego Fire Rescue Capt. Joe Amador. It’s not clear whether the fake pot, or “spice,” was taken voluntarily. [1]

In New York City, federal and city authorities announced last Wednesday that they were cracking down on synthetic marijuana, also known as Spice or K2, after raiding some 90 bodegas that sold the powerful drug.

State and local lawmakers in New York on Thursday called on eBay, Craigslist, and other retailers to stop selling synthetic marijuana, or K2, with one lawmaker saying the drug is leaving the streets full of “zombies.”
“The Internet has become a virtual bodega and a chemist’s warehouse,” state Sen. Jeff Klein, a Bronx Democrat, said at a Manhattan press conference. “These are things that we can find in grocery stores and bodegas around our city, and now you can actually get them delivered to your front door.”

According to recent reports, poison control centers are seeing a huge spike in cases involving use of synthetic marijuana, which has sent nearly thousands to seek medical care.
